Commission A4 Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy

Scientific Objectives

The IAU Commission A4 Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy pursues the goal of promoting the scientific progress and major achievements in the field of Celestial Mechanics, Dynamical Astronomy and their applications.

This includes: treatments of the mathematical, physical and computational aspects of planetary theory, lunar theory, satellite theory, space debris theory, general and special perturbation theory, resonance theory, dynamical systems, the 3-body problem, the n-body problem, orbital and space mechanics, ring systems, Solar System dynamics, galactic dynamics, relativity, non-gravitational forces, computer methods, software for analytical developments, and database management.

The Commission is also in charge of periodically sponsoring and/or co-sponsoring the organization of IAU symposia and other events on its own field and related fields.
