Subject: IAU Div D (High Energy Phenomena and Fundamental Physics): IAU Symposia and new members
Dear Div D members,
I would like to draw your attention to two upcoming important deadlines on September 15, 2017:
- Letters of Intent (LoI) for proposing IAU symposia for 2019 are due on September 15. See the IAU website for the detailed procedure. A LoI is mandatory if you plan to submit a full proposal, due on December 15:
https://www.iau.org/science/meetings/rules/#31.
The LoI purpose is to early identify similar proposals and inform submitters to avoid overlap among them in preparation of the final text.
The Steering Committee of Division D is available to assist you in the preparation of the LoI, and, at a later stage, of the full proposal.
- Nominations of new individual members by the Division Presidents will be made from September 15, 2017 until March 15, 2018. Suggestions for new members should be sent to the Division President, Professor Chryssa Kouveliotou, as soon as possible. Note however that the bulk of nominations is expected to come from the National Members, so the nomination by the Division Presidents should be limited, in general, to special cases that, for some reasons, may not be reached by the regular invitation of the National Committees of Astronomy. See for details:
I also draw your attention to the new membership category of "Junior Members".
Best regards,
Anna Watts Associate Professor, University of Amsterdam
Secretary for IAU Division D.
