Under One Sky: Astronomy around the World | Syria

This video highlights astronomical activities in the Syrian Arab Republic. The video includes information about Syrian astronomers who contributed to the development of space science and astronomy, such as Ibn Al-Shater’s Sundial, the first solar instrument to measure time in minutes in the world. It also discusses about activities that carried out by SAA to disseminate astronomy everywhere, and events that promoted astronomy as a tool for education, development and diplomacy for inclusion, equity and diversity, especially for children with disabilities, orphans, and for all segments of society too.

In 2019 with IAU100, many important milestones are also being celebrated, such as Moon Landing 50 and various outreach events organized by the National University of Mongolia, such as translation activities, IAU Woman & Girls in Astronomy, Hundred Youth Ambassador, 100 Hours of AStronomy, and more.

This video is part of the IAU100 series Under One Sky: Astronomy around the World, which provides a glimpse into the diverse worldwide astronomical community. Each video is presented through the eye of the IAU National Outreach Coordinators, with every chapter we will learn about the history of astronomy, the country’s current research efforts in space science, and how astronomy is celebrated in this region,  with firsthand comments from astronomers and insight into the activities developed during the IAU100 celebrations throughout 2019.

Join us in celebrating an astronomical journey Under One Sky.
