Astronomy Translation Network
The goal of the Astronomy Translation Network (ATN) was to provide the world’s best open resources in astronomy outreach in as many languages as possible. Though a successful programme, with a wide network of astronomy translators, we unfortunately had to terminate this programme due to human resources concerns.
The NAOJ Telescope kit was a built-it-yourself, compact, and affordable telescope designed to be used in the “One Family, One Telescope” and “One School, One Telescope” projects.
In 2019, to celebrate its 100th anniversary, the IAU sparked a year-long project to engage with people all over the world under the theme “under one sky”.
The e-Light Pollution Photo Exhibition aimed to raise awareness about the environmental impact of light pollution through photography. People from all over the world submitted their photos showing either a clear and dark night sky or a scene showing the effects of light pollution on nighttime observing.
IAU Symposium 358: Astronomy for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
The focus of this meeting was to actively consolidate and present best practices for identifying and addressing barriers to equal participation, expand our knowledge of diverse workplace policies, present new assistive technologies and demonstrate the advantages of diverse environments for research.
The 2021 Communicating Astronomy with the Public (CAP) Conference took place virtually. Participants gave talks and poster presentations on Communicating Astronomy with the Public in the Age of Global Crises. This theme acknowledged the challenges our community had to face during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic and promoted the ways in which our community has adapted.
IAU XXXth GA Focus Meeting 14: IAU’s role on global astronomy outreach, the latest challenges and bridging different communities
Focus Meeting 14 at the 2018 GA in Vienna provided an important opportunity for research astronomers and outreach professionals to jointly consider the IAU’s role in global astronomy outreach. Participants shared what is already being done and discussed ways to move forward.
