On Friday 28 June the 2019 Gruber Cosmology Prize was officially awarded to its recipients, Nicholas Kaiser and Joseph Silk at a ceremony at the CosmoGold Conference in Paris. The Gruber Prize is presented annually in the fields of cosmology, genetics and neuroscience with the cosmology prize being presented in conjunction with the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
The ceremony, which took place at the Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris, was introduced by François Bouchet from the CosmoGold Organising Committee. Also present were Sarah Hreha, Executive Director of The Gruber Foundation, and Teresa Lago, IAU General Secretary, who respectively gave some background to the prize and the IAU’s collaboration with the Gruber Foundation.
The official citations were read by Subir Sarkar, of the Cosmology Selection Advisory Board, who also spoke about the influential work of the recipients. He and Sarah Hreha presented gold laureate pins, paperweights and citations to Nicholas Kaiser and Joseph Silk. Official photographs were taken after the presentation. Patricia Gruber, Co-Founder and President Emeritus, joined the photo session.
Both recipients expressed their gratitude for the honour in recognition of their work. Each gave a short lecture and took questions, concluding the ceremony, which was followed by a reception.
