IAU Invites National Members to Submit Candidatures to Host the General Assembly in 2027

The IAU is inviting its national members to submit Letters of Intent to host the IAU General Assembly in 2027 (GA2027). This triennial event takes place over 12 days, offering a rich scientific programme and facilitating meetings and new collaborations between astronomers.

The programme includes 6 Symposia and 12 Focus Meetings, which are selected by the IAU Executive Committee. There are also Invited Discourses by distinguished scientists, scientific meetings organised by the 9 IAU Divisions, meetings organised by each of the 4 IAU Offices, IAU administrative sessions, public lectures and a social programme. With a few thousand astronomers from across the world in attendance, hosting an IAU General Assembly is an exciting opportunity for a member state and its local astronomy community.

It is expected that in 2027 the IAU General Assembly will be an in-person meeting. Letters of Intent to host the IAU GA2027 should be submitted by the deadline of 1 November 2020. Further details on the Rules & Guidelines for hosts can be found here.
