At the beginning of his career Paulo Benevides Soares, with his competence, talent, creativity and originality, became one of the pillars of the development of Brazilian Astronomy. He was Professor at the University of São Paulo since 1968, after obtaining his PhD at the University of Paris I. Throughout his career he developed relevant instrumental, observational and theoretical works in the area of astrometry and in other fields of astronomy, in geophysics and optics, and advised several PhD students. In addition to his professional qualities, it is important to highlight his kindness and respect to ethical principles. |
