Description

Since its transfer from Lick Observatory in 1964, the Washington Double Star Catalog has been the principal world-wide database for visual double star data, including astrometry, photometry, and other relevant information. It has been recognized as such by the IAU (see van de Kamp, 1966 IAUTB 12, 267). The mission of this WG is to maintain the WDS and its related catalogs (orbital elements rectilinear elements, etc.), to resolve issues of binary star identification and nomenclature, and to disseminate these catalogs to the astronomical community through its continuously-updated website.
